Thank you Bethany for making a guest appearance!
Why do you write?
Because I have to. If I don’t write, all the ideas running in my head would drive me crazy until I wrote them down. Recently I ran across pages of unfinished manuscripts. I don’t know if I’ll ever get back to those novels or if I’ll use them to reinvent a tale, but those pages and my novels, are testament to my need to get my ideas into written form.
What’s your favorite genre? Do you have a favorite author (if so, please tell us the name)?
Romantic stories, mostly. I love fairy-tales, and mythology. There’s a whole list of authors I love, and at the risk of forgetting one, I’ll just say some that come to mind no particular order: Lesley Livingston, Marie Hall, Shanna Swendson, Kerrelyn Sparks, Christie Craig, C.C. Hunter, Katie McGarry, Tess St. John. Of course there’s a lot of other authors I thoroughly enjoy.
To be successful as an author, what do you see as the main goal?
Before I was published, my main goal was to be published. Since that’s occurred, it’s to continue putting out novels. My Romance debuted last year, and this year I’ll be debuting New Adult Paranormal Romance in my Immortal Dreams Trilogy. I hope to continue to write New Adult Paranormal Romance, but to also write more in Romance with adding books to the Third Realm (the world I wrote in for my Romance, All’s Fair In Love & Lion). I like the idea of exploring different things I can do with my writing.
What inspires you and how do you channel it when you need inspiration?
Most anything inspires me–books, movies, music, dreams, stories. I guess I channel it through daydreaming, mapping out characters and ideas. I’m what I call a “half-in-half” author. I do some plotting and some pantsering.
What advice can you give to aspiring authors?
I’m going to sound like a broken record, but it’s true: write, write, write. Read a lot. Check out writers, agents, publishers’ websites and blogs. And, to quote Winston Churchill, “Never, never, never give up.”
What advice would you give to the youth of today (Not just authors)?
That’s a tough one. You see, when I was a youth I knew people older than me had good advice, but I often felt like I was being told what to do, or people were preaching at me. So I don’t know if what I’d say would sound like that or come across as good advice. Bottom line, actions have consequences…don’t act impulsively, because most likely you WILL regret it, even if you think you won’t.
What’s on your bucket list?
Not to have a bucket so I don’t kick it.
Okay, bad jokes aside…
Let me see, one day I’d like to get back to St. Croix in the US Virgin Islands (Husband and I went there on our honeymoon and we had a good time. I wonder if the Le St. Tropez restaurant we liked so much is still there–French Mediterranean food and oh so good).
I want to get to Disney World (seriously, never been, but have always wanted to go)
Maybe get over to Germany, Belgium, and England one day to see where my ancestors came from.
To have a book signing event and/or book launch party (and to have people show up–that would be sad if nobody came).
Probably a few other things, but those things are off the top of my head.
What would you like readers to know about you?
I come from a big family–I’m one of 8 kids, with a bunch of nieces and nephews. I’m very proud of my siblings, and of being an aunt. I dearly love my parents who have taught me so much. As for my personality, I’m a dreamer. I love to come up with new worlds, which is why what I write has elements of the paranormal and fantasy in it. I adore fairy-tales, and mythology. I’m also a fan of some Japanese Anime. My current favorite TV show is Once Upon A Time, but I also enjoy laughing over Melissa And Joey.
Tell us about your book:
For Romance, I have one that was released last year called All’s Fair In Love & Lion which is about a high school English teacher named Sasha Brighton who dreams of a man named Monroe Dubay. Little does she know that Monroe exists in a world that runs parallel to the human world called The Third Realm and Monroe is determined to win her–she also doesn’t know that he can change into a lion. (this novel is available on Amazon Kindle and available to order in paperback through Barnes & Noble’s website) I do hope to write more Third Realm Romances, but so far, that’s the only one I’ve got.
For my New Adult Paranormal Romances, Soul Mate Publishing will be releasing book 1 of my Immortal Dreams Trilogy this year. Immortal Dreams Book 1: Divine Love is the start of 18-year old Laney Alberts and Erich Magnus’s adventures with the paranormal, magic, and saving the world. Romance, magic, Greek/Roman gods and goddesses, plus adventure will all be found in that one. My New Adult Paranormal Romances do not have any connection with my Third Realm stories, so Monroe and Sasha and all the other characters from All’s Fair In Love & Lion will NOT be making any appearances in the Immortal Dreams novels and vice versa.
Immortal Dreams Trilogy:
Book 1: Divine Love (scheduled for June 2014 from Soul Mate Publishing)
Book 2: Astral Love (probably Fall 2014 from Soul Mate Publishing)
Book 3: Immortal Love (probably 2015 from Soul Mate Publishing)
All’s Fair In Love & Lion (July 10, 2013 from Soul Mate Publishing)

Great interview, Bethany! Your new book sounds exciting. We have favorite authors in common. I got to meet one of my favorites in Atlanta last year, Kerrelyn Sparks. Yep, she was wonderful.
Larynn,
Oh yeah, Kerrelyn is a sweetheart. I’ve met her in person a couple of times–once at her book signing and another at a C.C. Hunter book signing. We chat sometimes. She’s very nice.
If you decide to get and read the book, I hope you enjoy it! I had a lot of fun writing it. 🙂
