Summer will soon come to an end and fall will be fast approaching. Every season has great things in its favor. Summer has the Fourth of July with its fireworks and patriotic parades. Fall will come in with its changing colors and smells of pumpkins and burning leaves and fun festivals with corn mazes and school carnivals.
I am so glad my family lives in an area of Texas where we still enjoy so many of these seasonal events. One of the most fun times, in which my family and friends participate, is going out on the night of a full moon, with layers of sweaters and coats on against the chilly evening air, buying mugs of hot chocolate, sitting on large logs and warming our feet around a huge bonfire. After we are warmed inside and out, we head into a huge corn maze armed with our tiny pen lights. This maze has been around for years and each year a theme is cut into the stalks. Clues for directions to the right paths are located at little wooden boxes along the way. It’s fun trying to come up with the correct answer and locate the right path in order to continue.
There is always a lot of laughter and a bit of scary times too with the wind ruffling through tall stalks and moonlight casting eerie shadows towering over us as we scurry along the dirt rows. One such trip ended in a really scary way when we finally exited the corn rows and found we were the last to emerge. In fact, the place had closed and we were miles from town in the middle of the country in the dark of the night…alone. It was one of those memories to laugh about later.
We all have memories of fun times and fun people that stay with us and even shape us as we go through life. It was just such a memory of mine…the corn maze… that I shared in my latest book, Mercy’s Rescue, which debuts August 10th. I saw a young man do this same thing and I thought how romantic and special. It was filed away in my mind to place in the perfect story. The story of Mercy and Josh and their search for love and renewed faith was the home for this sweet memory.
Mercy’s Rescue was chosen to launch the new line, Bling! Romance, from Lighthouse Publishing of the Carolinas. I am very proud and excited to have my book chosen for such an honor. I write romance because I love the feelings it brings to those who read the stories and enjoy them. My goal is when you finish the book, you will have a smile and experience that ‘ahhh’ feeling you get when you have read a book that leaves you feeling happy and your heart lighter. I hope you enjoy Mercy’s Rescue and will visit my website for more information about my writing. Enjoy the rest of your summer and happy reading!
Finding himself fighting for his life after an ambush, Sheriff Josh Wellman awakens to find himself looking into the eyes of a real-life angel of mercy.
When their hands touch, he knows his life has changed in that instant.
But devastating heartbreak has left Mercy Smith’s faith in tatters, her heart guarded against more loss. Her dedication to the air evac trauma team she leads has insulated her from the realities of the earth below, so now Josh faces the biggest challenge of his life.
Can he find a way to get past the walls around Mercy and convince this angel to stay on the ground with him? Can Mercy open her heart to life again and find a way to restore her faith in God…as well as love?

Born and raised in the Lone Star state of Texas, Debra grew up among horses, cowboys, wide open spaces, and real Texas Rangers. Pride in her state and ancestry knows no bounds and it is these heroes and heroines she loves to write about the most. She also draws upon a variety of life experiences including working with abused children, caring for baby animals at a major zoo, and planning high-end weddings (ah, romance!).
Debra’s real pride and joys, however, are her son, an aspiring film actor, and a daughter with aspirations to join the Federal Bureau of Investigation. (more story ideas!) When she isn’t busy writing about tall Texans and feisty heroines, she can be found cheering on her Texas Tech Red Raiders, or heading off on another cruise adventure. She read her first romance…Janet Dailey’s Fiesta San Antonio, over thirty years ago and became hooked on the genre. Writing contemporary western romances, is both her passion and dream come true, and she hopes her books will bring smiles…and sighs…to all who believe in happily-ever-after’s.

Debra thanks for joining me! It’s great to have another Texan on the blog. I adore your story premise and can’t wait to learn more. What part of Texas are you from? I will have to read Mercy’s Rescue so I can find out more about the corn maze. Have a great week and thanks again for being a guest on my blog!
