Damned If She Does, Damned If She Doesn't: Rethinking the Rules of the Game That Keep Women from Succeeding in BusinessDamned If She Does, Damned If She Doesn’t: Rethinking the Rules of the Game That Keep Women from Succeeding in Business by Lynn Cronin

Yes, it’s interesting to read something that confirms what my years in business have proven…and shows that I wasn’t imagining the discrepancies. While I never voiced discontent (that would have been a mistake), there was a need for change. And still is.

I think most women in business are taught that to be a team player, you sometimes have to make concessions, take blame when it’s not yours “for the cause”, and praise the group rather than your own efforts (even if you were the only one in the group working). I find it interesting that the very behaviors that reap great reward to our male coworkers can tend to backfire on women and make them appear less competent or selfish.

The only unknown (still) is what to do about it. Sure, education is important but if that is solely focused on the female working population, then nothing will change.

Now, I would suggest a book full of ways to address the issues.
