Today’s Spotlight is on Jenn Langston, author of His Perfect Bride
Why do you write?
I have always enjoyed reading books, and often times find myself consumed in the story and the character’s lives. Writing allows me to be a part of that. I enjoy telling stories and wish to make people as happy as I feel when I pick up a good book.
What’s your favorite genre? Do you have a favorite author?
I love all romance, however I have to say historical romance is my favorite genre. Although I have numerous authors that I love and purchase every book they write, Christina Dodd is my favorite.
To be successful as an author, what do you see as the main goal?
To have people enjoying my book. When I receive a good review, it makes my heart want to burst with joy. It also makes me feel successful when I hear that someone I don’t know has recommended my book.
What inspires you and how do you channel it when you need inspiration?
All I need is quiet time. When I find I’ve reached a particularly difficult scene or am unsure of which direction to take, I find some place where I won’t be disturbed to work the part out in my head. Driving is the best time for me to think. Also, I have a very awesome critique group who is always willing to listen and brainstorm with me.
What advice can you give to aspiring authors?
Do not give up. After having my past manuscripts rejected, I wanted to stop trying. Once I finished His Perfect Bride, I almost set it aside and stopped seeking publication. However, I decided to give the book one try, and that’s when I received a publishing contract.
What advice would you give to the youth of today (not just authors)?
Follow your heart. Don’t let other people’s opinion stop you from going after what you want. Take the good advise and ignore the bad.
What’s on your bucket list?
I want to travel to London. It would be incredible to walk the streets I’ve studied on maps. Hyde Park would also be on my list of places to visit. Lastly, I want to tour castles. Their silent majesty has always captivated me, and to actually see and touch that in person would take my breath away.
Tell us about your book :
His Perfect Bride is a historical romance set in England.
Richard Carrack received the title of Marquis of Stonemede upon his father’s death six months ago. Knowing of the duties associated with the title, he decides to marry and spend the remainder of his days tending to the estate. His requirements for his bride are simple; he wishes her to be obedient and calm-spirited. When circumstances place him in the path of Lady Brianna Denton, whose wild ways make her an unsuitable candidate, he lies about his identity to discourage her from pursuing him for his title.
Brianna Denton knows what she wants out of life. She wishes to marry an untitled lord and live the remainder of her days in the country with no obligations. Only then can she spend her free time painting. When she meets Mr. Richard, she decides he would make the perfect husband. Little does she know, her boldness puts her in a position where she must decide between what she always thought she wanted and what her heart is telling her.
What would you like people to know about you):
I graduated from the University of Houston with a BBA in Accounting and a minor in European studies. Although I work as an accountant and mother, I use every ounce of spare time to write. I am fascinated with London during the 1800s, and try to infuse that love in my historical romances.
When not writing, I love spending time with my husband and three children. We can be seen camping, bowling, fishing, or visiting museums. I’m also an avid reader, and normally take my Kindle with me everywhere I go.
